Faculty of Business Hoster Academic Bootcamp to Welcome New Students

MIRI, 19 March – The Faculty of Business Learning & Teaching Committee at Curtin University Malaysia organized its Academic Excellence Bootcamp for First Semester Students on March 15, 2024. With a focus on academic integrity and professional development, the Bootcamp offered a comprehensive program featuring distinguished industrial speakers and practical workshops. 

The bootcamp commenced with an insightful welcoming address by Dr. Fayrene Chieng Yew Leh, Associate Dean of Learning & Teaching at the Faculty of Business. Dr. Fayrene captivated the audience with her discourse on Academic Integrity and the Use of Gen-AI, shedding light on the importance of upholding ethical behavior in academia and leveraging cutting-edge technologies responsibly. 

Attendees were further enriched by engaging industrial talks delivered by prominent figures in the industry. Mr. Kenny Hii Shin Yao, Senior Relationship Manager at AmSignature Priority Banking Sarawak, delivered a compelling presentation titled “Showing Up: The Power of Class Attendance and its Impact on Professional Success.” Mr. Hii, a Curtin Alumni himself, highlighted the significance of consistent attendance and its correlation with professional achievements, leaving attendees inspired and motivated to prioritize their academic commitments. 

Mr. Bryan Chia, General Manager of Eye (1) Recycle Sdn. Bhd., took the stage to share his expertise in a session titled “From Campus to Career: Crafting Crucial Connections & Competencies for Success.” Mr. Chia’s insightful discourse offered invaluable guidance on navigating the transition from academic life to the professional realm, emphasizing the importance of networking and skill development; as well as his entrepreneurial journey. 

In addition, participants benefitted from a workshop facilitated by Ms. Nora Hii from the Library and Commons. Ms. Hii provided practical guidance on referencing and demonstrated effective strategies for utilizing the Library database to access high-quality academic resources. Her session equipped attendees with essential research skills, empowering them to excel in their academic pursuits. Dr. Ting Qian Hui, the student experience coordinator conducted a briefing focused on strategizing students’ study plans for academic success and career planning. Through interactive discussions, Dr. Ting empowered participants to map out their educational journey effectively, aligning their academic pursuits with their long-term career aspirations.
