Acing the Interview Presentation

Miri – 31 March 2023 – The Faculty of Business hosted an interview presentation workshop to help students who are interested in taking up an internship to learn strategies for successful interviewing and to provide them with a better understanding of the interview process.

The workshop was conducted by Dr Anita Jimmie, from the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences. The workshop began with an overview of the interview process, including the importance of researching the company and position prior to the interview. Attendees were then given tips on how to answer common interview questions, such as outlining their strengths and weaknesses, and explaining why they are the best candidate for the job. The workshop then moved on to a discussion of the importance of body language during an interview. Attendees were taught how to make a positive first impression, and how to use eye contact and body posture to their advantage.

The participants were also given the opportunity to practise their job interview skills in a mock interview setting. To create an environment that is as close to the real thing as possible, Ms Delicia Mathew, the Senior Human Resource Officer at Curtin Malaysia and Ms Valerie Velina Anaelechi, an MPU coordinator at Curtin Malaysia were invited as the mock interviewers.

The workshop concluded with a debriefing session to provide students with an opportunity to reflect on the successes and challenges of the mock interview as well as to identify areas for improvement in the future. Overall, the workshop was a great success, and all participants gained valuable insight into the job interview process.
