FOB Hosted Academic Awareness Workshop for New Students

Miri – 17 March 2023 – The Faculty of Business at Curtin University Malaysia organised the Academic Awareness Workshop for new students to foster a culture of academic integrity across the faculty.

The event kicked off with a welcome address from the Dean of FOB, Professor Andreas Zins. He spoke about the importance of academic awareness and the need to keep up with the rapidly changing academic environment. He also highlighted that a rising level of awareness and knowledge adds to positive attitude of students.

The presentations by the Associate Dean of L&T, Dr Fayrene Chieng and Associate Professor Shamsul Kamariah on the “roadmap” to success in the academic arena were the highlight of the event. They spoke about how to develop good study habits and how to balance academic and personal commitments. They also gave advices on how to make use most of university resources such as tutoring services, library services and student support services.

Following the sharing was a referencing workshop led by Dr Ivy Hii, who provided an overview of the Chicago referencing style and how to use it. She then went on to discuss the importance of referencing and how to apply it to different sources. The workshop was highly interactive with the students being asked to participate in discussions and activities to reinforce their understanding of the Chicago referencing style.

Overall, the event was a great success.
