Stock Trading Talk
Miri – 10 May 2022 – The Curtin Finance and Investment Club (CFIC), the student-run club for business students at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), recently hosted a talk on stock trading for students and lecturers of the university and members of the public.
The talk titled ‘Introduction to the Stock Market and Fundamentals of Analysis for Beginners’, which was hosted in hybrid mode for over 70 face-to-face and online participants, was delivered by a technical analyst, full-time stock trader and trainer Kairul Ali.
Kairul is a seasoned trader and technical analysis chart scriptwriter for Trading View’s investment tool website. He has written three technical indicators for the site – volume ratio indicator, dynamic chip – thick red line (TRL) and an alert linked to Telegram to update users when a stock breaks out or down, signalling a new trend.
The four-hour talk was conducted in morning and afternoon sessions, the first being an introductory session familiarising the participants with the basics of stock trading, such as the types of stocks, who can engage in the stock market, how to start trading, setting objectives and the trading process, and the risk-reward levels in trading stocks.
The second session focused on technical analysis. The participants were introduced to the techniques of technical analysis (predicting, monitoring and execution of trades), the definition of a trading plan and trading style, and different technical tools and indicators.
Kairul also introduced his trading system, the ‘Kai Trading System’ which applies specific technical indicators, mainly volume ratio, dynamic chips, moving average relative (MAR) and relative strength index (RSI).
Alpha Ngadan, a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, said the talk was particularly relevant and beneficial to students in the Bachelor of Commerce majoring in finance, or the accounting and finance, banking and finance, finance and management, and finance and marketing double majors, at the Faculty of Business.
Curtin’s Bachelor of Commerce in Finance prepares students for careers in corporate finance for big business, well-known financial institutions, or in financial markets in Malaysia and internationally.
“The field of finance can take you anywhere in the world and to many careers. Financial planners help people to make smart decisions with their money. They take time to understand each client’s goal and objectives. They formulate a financial plan, monitor progress and help their clients maintain a budget. If you enjoy working with people and want to help others progress financially, this could be the industry for you,” he said.
He added that Curtin finance graduates may seek membership in professional bodies both in Australia and Malaysia. All of Curtin’s business courses are accredited by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and Curtin University ranks in the top 200 universities in the world for accounting and finance and the top 250 for business and management studies according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.
