About us
One of the great things about being in the department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics is the feeling of freedom that comes from being in a place that accepts and respects so many different points of view to enhance learning and teaching. This concept is integral to our mission in our classes. Our students are taught by faculty members who are researchers and industry experts and Tertiary Teaching certificate holders. We firmly believe that what takes place outside the classroom has a measurable impact on classroom learning. Our most reliable network of contacts and supports comes from our many distinguished alumni in the financial world.
The department actively invites Practitioners to supplement our curriculum with insight from the practical world of finance and organized field trips to enrich student learning experiences. So far, the students have visited CIMB Investment and commercial banks, Malaysian Inland Revenue, Malaysian Building Society, FSTEP (Talent Enriching Program Institute) and the Malaysian Stock Exchange (Bursa Malaysia). The students have learned much from their industry visits. Students graduating from our courses pursue careers in accounting, finance, corporate finance, financial institutions, financial markets and other branches of the financial services industry.
While the Accounting program is the biggest in the Faculty of Business, Curtin Malaysia, it offers single and double major options for students desiring to embark on an accounting or related career pathway. The Accounting programs are designed cognisant of the demand from the industry coupled with the substantial regulatory and compliance changes in accounting standards themselves. The single profession seems to be in demand for years in the past, steadily, and many to come.
